How to Use the Statistics Calculator (Mean, Median, SD, Variance)
-
1
Paste or type your dataset (comma or newline separated).
-
2
Click Calculate to compute all descriptive statistics simultaneously.
-
3
View a summary table with all measures plus a mini box plot visualization.
Practical Example & Use Case
Analyzing a 50-value sales dataset to find the mean ($4,820), median ($4,150), SD ($1,240), and detect right skew.
Technical Notes & Limitations
All calculations use sample statistics (dividing by n-1 for SD/variance). Toggle to population statistics (÷n) as needed.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between sample and population standard deviation?
Sample SD divides by (n-1) using Bessel's correction to give an unbiased estimate of the true population SD from a sample. Population SD divides by n when you have the entire dataset.
What is skewness?
Skewness measures asymmetry of the distribution. Positive skew means a long right tail (most values low, few extreme high values). Negative skew is the reverse.
